Off on a well deserved diving vacation to the tropical Pacific, Bwana Doc and his confederates are confronted directly by the horror of the practice of sharkfinning. One of the most barbaric acts of the fishing industry where sharks are caught, their fins cut off to make soup and the rest of the shark is dumped back into the sea alive. Acting to save these magnificent predators of the sea, they confront the shark fishing industry head on. Unscrupulous as well as barbaric, it is a worthy opponent. If that weren’t hard enough, Bwana Doc also has to evade the clutches of Interpol agent, Bennett Boyd, who is obsessed with capturing the environmental pirate. With many of the same great characters found in the 1st of the series, “Saving the Whales”, it’s another great story of high seas action and adventure. Available, December, 2011.

Considering President Obama recently bungled it up in San Francisco by ordering soup from a Chinese restaurant that serves shark fin soup…the release of Stopping the Shark Finners a Bwana Doc Adventure is eerily timely. As leader of our country and one who signed legislation banning shark fin soup one must walk the walk and not just talk the talk…whether appearing as President of our country or campaigning…it is his ultimate responsibility to be aware of where he shops or stops. Shark finning should be illegal everywhere and that includes Chinatown USA.
This 2nd action adventure of Bwana Doc is again about modern day swashbucklers, well intentioned bungling environmentalists, piracy, and covert operations! This is another fun read for all ages. Schneider shares the history of shark fin soup, geography lessons for those of us who have trouble keeping up with country name changes, and educates the reader with adventure and excitement about the atrocities of shark finning and the wrongs against them by humanity. Definitely a good buy as a present for the “kid” (grown up or not) in all of us. I look forward to the next Bwana Doc Adventure to see what other environmental wrong Bwana Doc will take on.
